Despite the important roles they play in the high-tech world and in our everyday life, many people have not heard of tantalum and niobium before. Tantalum is a rare metal with the highest capacitance, or the ability to hold and release electricity, known to science. It is primarily used by the electronic industry for the production of capacitors that find their way into cell phones, laptops, digital cameras, airbags, and other devices. It is also used for specialty applications in the aerospace, medical, and nuclear power industries.
